The inhabitants and parishioners of San Benito in the states of Zulia, Trujillo and Mérida will extend the celebrations in honor of the jump until January 06.
It is a tradition that combines Catholic, African and indigenous elements with the ringing of drums that accompanies manifestations of faith and culture.
This festival was recognized in 2024 as Cultural Heritage of the state of Zulia and brings together communities that keep Afro-Venezuelans alive through rituals, dances and songs. The celebration focuses on Saint Benedict of Palermo, known as the “ Black Saint”, whose veneration reflects the fusion of beliefs and practices that have transcended generations, becoming a cultural and religious reference of great importance for the Andean and Zulian communities.
