The president in charge of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, granted the Francisco de Miranda Order, in her first post-mortem class, to the historian, writer and journalist Pedro Nolasco Calzadilla Álvarez, who recently died, according to the Minister of Popular Power for Culture, Ernesto Villegas.
“I had the honor of presenting the jewel and diploma to their families during the wake ceremony, which brought together a large number of militants, academics and loved ones of the patriarch of the Calzadilla family,” said Villegas.
The award, awarded during an emotional ceremony, recognizes Calzadilla Álvarez as a man “deeply committed to his work as a teacher and researcher, actions that made him the winner of the National History Award”. In addition, it praises his intellectual legacy and his contribution to new generations.
The post-mortem honoree, father of Pedro Calzadilla Pérez, president of the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies Rómulo Gallegos (Celarg), left for eternity this Sunday, January 18, in Caracas, at 93 years of age.
Villegas also noted that the president in charge sent Pedro Calzadilla Jr., a beautiful personal letter in which she pondered the enormous virtues of her father, the proud son of Altagracia de Orituco.
The farewell ceremony was attended by family, friends and relatives, who paid tribute to his memory through music and poetry.
During the funeral, passages from several of his books were read, which remain part of the legacy of his struggles, said the minister, who finally wrote as words of farewell: “Honor and glory!”
