This Wednesday, it was announced that the Judiciary in Peru rejected the request to review the preventive detention of former President Pedro Castillo, after being dismissed and arrested for trying to dissolve Congress and announce that he would govern by decree.

Hispantv explained on its website that the judicial system ordered a preventive detention of 18 months, which was then extended until December 2024.

Castillo's defense alleged that this measure violates his rights and is part of an irregular process, since he represents rural and disadvantaged sectors, where he maintains significant support; in this regard, supporters have considered that his imprisonment reflects an animosity of the Peruvian political elite.

The justice system in Peru refused to change Pedro Castillo's arrest, denouncing an unfair and politicized process, and although the former president is still in prison, his followers demand his release and the convening of new elections as a solution to the political crisis.

In this regard, Pedro Castillo reaffirmed his commitment to the country, assured that he has no intention of fleeing and requested a fair investigation. He also thanked his compatriots for their support and asked that the truth be prioritized in his judicial process.
