The President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, rejected the blockade measures applied against Venezuela in the context of the United States military deployment in the Caribbean.

Petro stated that a joint strategy in the Caribbean cannot be oriented towards interventions or invasions, but rather towards cooperation mechanisms between the armed forces of the States involved, RT reported.

Since August, the United States has maintained a reinforced military presence off the Venezuelan coast under the pretext of anti-drug operations. Later, they announced the operation “Spear of the South”, presented as a plan to combat criminal organizations and strengthen their internal security.

These actions, attacks were carried out against vessels in the Caribbean and the Pacific, events that caused dozens of deaths without evidence of illegal activities.

UN and DEA reports indicate that Venezuela is not listed as the main drug trafficking route to the United States, since most of the shipments are transported across the Pacific.

The actions of the United States have been criticized by governments and international organizations. Russia, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the governments of Colombia, Mexico and Brazil have expressed their disagreement, while experts define attacks on vessels as practices that violate international law.
