The Cayapa Heroica National Plan, promoted by the Bolivarian Government through the Ministry for Science and Technology (Mincyt), celebrates its 7th anniversary with an achievement that consolidates the technological sovereignty and social commitment of Venezuelan talent by recovering more than 10,000 vital equipment for the country at the national level as a direct and forceful response to the challenges imposed by the Unilateral Coercive Measures imposed by the United States.

This milestone represents part of the skills and ingenuity that the Venezuelan people have to innovate with their own resources and knowledge, laying the foundations for technological independence that reduces the need for expensive foreign imports for repairs and spare parts, and is also reflected in savings of more than 29 million dollars by avoiding replacement or the contracting of expensive international services.

According to a MINCYT press release, since its inception, Cayapa Heroica has focused on essential areas, with a primary focus on the health sector, where 80% of the recovered equipment is for medical use and the other 20% is comprised of education, electricity, agriculture, oil production and other fields.

This scope represents a significant figure for the country, since these include everything from incubators to the control system of the generation machine of the Fabricio Ojeda hydroelectric power plant, located in the state of Mérida, as announced by the president of the National Center for Development and Research in Telecommunications Foundation (Cendit), Gloria Carvalho, who also stressed that the importance is not in the economic representation of the savings it generates.

“Today, Cayapa has recovered more than 10,000 teams nationwide. That's easy to say, but what do 10,000 teams represent? I don't like it when they put in economic terms how many millions the country saves by recovering equipment, because a human life is priceless. One of these devices is the control tower of the Fabricio Ojeda power plant, which generates enough electricity to supply an entire state of the country,” he said.

The year 2025 marked the highest peak of activity, with the recovery of more than 3,500 teams to date, underlining the increasing effectiveness and impact of this multidisciplinary movement, which has more than 130 professional brigade members in all the states of the country. The equipment put back into operation includes mammographs, linear accelerators, X-ray equipment, ophthalmology surgical microscopes, bioanalysis equipment, centrifuges, sterilizers and more; which are vital to offering optimal medical service to everyone.
