Plan Exporta Fácil will promote the commercialization of Cocuy agave

The Ministry of Popular Power of Foreign Trade held the event called "Let's toast with cocuy in Venezuela and the world “, an event dedicated to celebrating and promoting the export potential of this beverage, cultural heritage of the country.

The head of this office, Coromoto Godoy, accompanied by the Deputy Minister for the Promotion of the Communal Economy, Raúl Cazal; the Deputy Minister of Monitoring and Control of Trade and Distribution, Hendrick Perdomo; the Deputy Minister of Export Promotion, Daniella Cabello, the president of the National Center for Historical Studies (CNEH), Omar Hurtado; deputies of the National Assembly, teachers and producers of cocuy; led the activity from the Center for Studies Latin Americans Rómulo Gallegos (Celarg), where he stated that this meeting is a sign of the Venezuelan affirmative.

The minister added that cocuy, as a national toast drink and the nation's native beverage, is a living and current heritage with a seal of Venezuelan identity and a productive phenomenon. “When we export a bottle of cocuy, a kilo of coffee, 100 grams of chocolate, we are exporting the identity, sovereignty and courage of a people that don't give up,” he said.

Godoy announced to producers the support for the official toast drink through the Easy Export Plan, which allows small batches, samples and commercial orders to be exported with simplified procedures and reduced costs. “What's coming is cocuy for the world,” he said.

It also recognized the National Assembly for the Law for the Protection and Promotion of Agave Cocui, Cocuy and their Artisanal Derivatives of 2023, describing this instrument as avant-garde. “It is the crystallization of a policy of the Bolivarian Government, in response to the historic struggle of the producers of cocuy,” he said.

During the speech of Deputy Minister Raúl Cazal, he emphasized the cocuy as part of our roots, “it is a root that we are celebrating, which today we can have as a symbol of export, and it is thanks to those who work it, all our artisans and also to the industrialists who have put their breasts to this,” he said.

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Trade called on Venezuelan institutions inside and outside the national territory to make 100% agave cocuy the beverage of toast at official events, in accordance with the provisions of article 4 of the law that governs the matter.

During the activity, more was learned about the heroic story of this product through the screening of the documentary “The Wonderful Agave Cocui”, directed by director Héctor Puche, and tribute was paid to the memory and work of two tireless fighters: Honorio Dudamel and Erik Jimeno.

“Let's toast with Cocuy, to the resistance of a productive people that, in the face of siege, responds with quality, perseverance and hard work,” added Minister Godoy. The activity concluded with a tasting of cocuy from different brands.
