The Party For Social Democracy (Podemos) demanded that an international investigation be
initiated into the kidnapping of the president of the Bolivarian
Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, and the first lady, Cilia
Flores, by United States military forces, a fact that constitutes
a serious violation of international law and Venezuelan sovereignty.
This was announced by the national vice-president for
business affairs and the economy of Podemos, Héctor Guaicaipura Sulbarán, who stated
that Venezuela is facing an act of invasion, which violates international
treaties that protect incumbent heads of state.
“We are in the presence of a vile kidnapping. It is not understood
how, unilaterally, another State breaks in, invades and removes the highest
leader of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, insulting the rights of all Venezuelans,” he said.
In this regard, he urged multilateral organizations and the international community to determine the absence of a valid arrest warrant against the Venezuelan president, while denouncing the commission of crimes such as invasion, kidnapping of a head of state and the first lady, as well as the murder of members of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces who were guarding the president.
