This Easter Sunday, Pope Francis made new calls for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, in a speech in which he valued the future of children who are in the midst of war.
“Let us not allow ongoing hostilities to continue to seriously affect the already exhausted civilian population, and especially children. How much suffering we see in their eyes. With their eyes they ask us: Why? Why so much death? Why so much destruction?” , declared the Supreme Pontiff from the central balcony of St. Peter's Basilica, in the Vatican.
Before more than 30,000 people, Francisco called, “once again, for guaranteed access to humanitarian aid to Gaza, and I once again ask for the prompt release of the hostages captured last October 7 and an immediate ceasefire in the Strip,” he said.
“Let us not allow the current hostilities to continue to have serious repercussions on the civilian population, now at the limit of its resistance, and especially on children,” he said in a speech.
He stressed that “Jesus Christ has risen, and only he is able to remove the stones that block the path to life. Moreover, he himself, the living one, is the path; the path of life, of peace, of reconciliation, of fraternity”.
He added that “he (Jesus Christ) opens up a passage for us that is humanly impossible, because only he removes sin from the world and forgives our sins. And without God's forgiveness, that stone cannot be removed.”
