This Sunday, March 22, Pope Leo XIV made a strong call to the international community not to remain indifferent to the suffering of defenceless victims in the Middle East and other regions in conflict.
During the Angelus prayer from the window of the Apostolic Palace, Leo XIV described the death and pain caused by armed clashes as a real scandal for humanity.
Before some 10,000 people gathered in St. Peter's Square, the Bishop of Rome reaffirmed the need to stop hostilities and open paths of peace based on respect for the dignity of peoples.
The Holy Father expressed his deep concern about the escalation of war that began on February 28, regretting that thousands of innocent people have lost their lives or were forced to leave their homes.
Leo XIV recalled that violence can never lead to the justice or stability that societies long for, so he demanded an immediate ceasefire from those responsible for the attacks.
In his message, the Pope insisted that dialogue is the only way to avoid an irreparable abyss and stop the tragedy of global proportions that the world is currently facing.
The pontiff resumed his previous warnings about the risk of a permanent fracture in international coexistence due to recent bombings and military offensives.
At the end of his Sunday address on March 22, Leo XIV asked for prayer for those who suffer the rigor of war and urged the powers involved to prioritize life over strategic interests.
His message seeks to awaken collective consciousness in the face of a crisis that, in his words, threatens to plunge humanity into an unprecedented stage of darkness and violence.
