Due to the rise of rivers due to the recent rains recorded in the Portuguese state, security and rescue agencies activated the early warning system, in order to act in a timely manner in case the waters endanger the inhabitants of any area of the state.
In this regard, the director of Civil Protection in Portuguese, Daniel Márquez, reported that “we have already activated the early warning system”.
He explained that the objective is to serve and protect the population in a timely manner, “at the time of an evacuation somewhere in the state, where we consider it necessary as a result of the rising of rivers.”
Márquez specified that due to the increase in river flow, the Risk Management System is deployed throughout the state, monitoring the behavior of the channels, mainly in the upper Chabasquén and Biscucuy areas, as well as in Guanare and in part of the Papelón municipality.
He mentioned strong floods of the Chabasquencito River in Chabasquén, and of the Guanare River, which is the main body of water in the capital of Portuguesa and also crosses several municipalities, “that's why we are constantly monitoring”.
To date, no damage has been reported in Portuguesa due to rain, except for water entering and leaving homes in the Guerrilandia hamlet, Guanare municipality. Civil Protection, Fire Department and Public Security Agencies are keeping an eye on rainy activity and recommend that the population be very cautious in the face of rising river levels.
