The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, this Friday, October 24, faced with the accusations made by the North American empire against him, emphasized that “we do not kneel down. We are not going to take a step back.”

He asserted that the Donald Trump administration is not responded to by kneeling, but with firmness and popular mobilization, just as humanity has done in defense of fundamental rights.

This was stated in Plaza Bolívar in Bogotá, where he summoned the Colombian people to support the draft Constituent Assembly, referring to the illegal measure of the United States government to include it in the list of the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).

“The summary of what happened today (Friday) in international matters is that the United States government has decided to choose the mafia as its ally in Colombia and has attacked those who attacked the mafia, trying to stop North American society from consuming so much cocaine,” Petro said in the activity broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión.

He said he had never “yielded to mafia proposals” and described the decision as a “typical expression of the Colombian mafia sleeping in Miami with its extreme right allies in Florida trying to bring a President to his knees because they won't let him do business in the United States or perhaps anywhere in the world.”

Petro reiterated what he had earlier anticipated by the social network X, that he had no assets in the North American country. “I've never done business, I don't have a dollar in the United States, there's no account to freeze, I don't want to do business in the United States of America in the future,” he said in front of the crowd that burst into applause.

He also maintained that he is accused of holding armed talks with groups that are no longer insurgents and stressed that his Government's actions have been to prevent further violence in the Colombian nation, which has been misrepresented as an alliance with drug trafficking. “This government is trying to make an alliance with peace,” he stressed.

In this context, he criticized that those who unleashed violence against the peasant people in the middle of the 20th century are the same people who have promoted violence in the 21st century.

President Petro said that Trump has allies in Colombia who have openly expressed their support, in contrast to what happened in countries such as Venezuela, Brazil and Mexico, where companies closed ranks in defense of their leaders attacked by external interests.

Petro denounced that “The Drug Trafficking Board” is promoting the rupture of relations between the United States and Colombia, through its influence on political actors who have turned to the American extreme right to request sanctions against the country and its government, instead of defending national sovereignty.

He pointed out that these actors, whom Donald Trump described as allies, represent mafia structures in Colombia.

He also asserted that the United States government wants to control Colombia's Security Agencies.

The Colombian president stressed that North American imperialism uses the fight against drugs, which has not diminished a single gram in large North American cities, as an attempt to deploy colonial control against the countries of the Latin American region.

“You can have your DEA overlords meeting in Barranquilla, watching an entanglement being built against President Petro. I have nothing to fear,” he said.

He assured that he has never allowed greed to enter his heart, which is why the Mafia never managed to build an alliance with the new democratic forces that today are working to transform the nation.

Petro indicated that his speech during the 80th anniversary of the United Nations General Assembly made a difference and, therefore, he is now being punished, while pointing out that the democratic forces of the United States and the forces of the Peoples of Latin America will not allow the North American empire to silence the voice of truth.

“For us, all over America, the time has come for freedom,” he said.
