This Monday, May 11 , the President in charge of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, described as “pernicious” and “useless” the report submitted by the Cooperative Republic of Guyana to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), in The Hague.

“The dichotomous report of the validity of the Award proposed by Guyana in its unilateral lawsuit is profoundly pernicious and useless, and no ruling of this court on the territorial dispute will provide a definitive solution acceptable to both parties,” Rodríguez said.

In this regard, he reaffirmed that, on the contrary, any judgment of the Court “will exacerbate differences and would lead the parties to entrench themselves in their respective positions, to which they committed themselves in 1966 with their signing of the Geneva Agreement, may conclude a case, but it will not put an end to the territorial dispute over Guiana Essequiba”.

In addition, he stated that the process promoted by Guyana seeks to ignore the Venezuelan history and identity linked to Guiana Essequiba. “It's about erasing the memory of a people to annul their future. Annihilating history will never support dispossession; the truth will always prevail,” he said

He reaffirmed that, despite this, Venezuela is ready and prepared to reach a practical and mutually satisfactory solution between both parties, through direct dialogue. “Today we are at the historic moment to demonstrate that dialogue and negotiation are the path to the coexistence, happiness and well-being of our Peoples, a bilateral meeting at the highest level sponsored by relevant actors in the region will undoubtedly be much more profitable and effective in achieving that objective,” he said.
