President in charge: The world can see that Venezuela is boosting hydrocarbon production

“The world can see that in Venezuela a very important moment is taking place to give a real boost to the production of hydrocarbons,” said the president in charge of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, during the signing of the session agreement for participation in Phase Two of the license for the exploration and exploitation of non-associated gaseous hydrocarbons of the Lorán Field, corresponding to Block 2 of the Deltana Platform, an activity she led since the Miraflores Palace.

Rodríguez described as “truly auspicious” the fact of having companies from different countries joining forces to develop this important field, and announced an achievement long awaited by the nation: “I must announce to the country that after 23 years we have finally managed to give impetus to gas production in this extraordinary and gigantic field such as Lorán, next to the Manati field, which is on the side of Trinidad and Tobago.”

Rodríguez thanked all the participating companies for their efforts, stressing that they are highly prestigious international companies, and reaffirmed the strategic importance of gas for the future of Venezuela.
“I have a special desire in gas for national development, to give impetus to industrial processes in Venezuela, to petrochemistry in Venezuela, but also, as I said, to now become not only an oil-exporting country but also a gas-exporting country. You are joining that effort and I thank you,” he said.

The president detailed the formation of the new consortium that will promote this phase of the project, recalling that Phase One has the participation of Shell, another gas giant. “Phase two is made up of these three very important companies such as British Petroleum, XRG and UCC, which join this joint effort to produce gas in Venezuela and export,” he said.

In this regard, Rodríguez emphasized the message of peace and cooperation that accompanies the country's energy development: “May Venezuela's energy when it crosses our borders be to bring well-being to other peoples, as well as to Trinidad and Tobago and other countries, and that the Venezuelan people also see reflected in these agreements the result of their efforts, their resistance and the hope they have for our country in growth and shared development.”

He concluded by congratulating this historic moment and thanking the members of the consortium for reaching such an important agreement.

“The most important thing is human development. So I congratulate this historic moment and thank you for having reached this important agreement for Venezuela and for the international energy community through a consortium,” he concluded.
