President Nicolás Maduro highlighted that today Venezuela commemorates 67 years of the Popular Insurrection of 1958.

“It was an insurrection that sought to rescue true democracy and the sovereignty of the Fatherland,” said the head of state through a message posted on his social networks.

He also recalled that the rebellious spirit of the great Fabricio Ojeda and of the martyrs who came out in civic-military union, representing the hope of a people that today, thanks to the Revolution, is not defenseless, is resisting with the original flags of January 23.

“The people's struggle will never be betrayed again!” , he asserted.

The message is accompanied by audiovisual material in which it states that: The spirit of January 23 was the greatest hope that a generation had that now the day had come to take back the glorious flags of the liberators, that the day had come to know what democracy, freedom, is.

On one occasion, Commander Hugo Chávez described Ojeda as the “leader of that military rebellion that awakened the men and women who took up the gun and went to the mountains to fight against the dictatorship of Betancourt, of Leoni, of Calder a”.
