The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, emphasized that the president Salvador Allende is the ultimate example of the courageous left that did not listen to the advice of imperialism, recalling the 54 years since the great electoral victory of the Chilean leader, on September 4, 1970.
He recalled that in the Presidential Palace of Chile, Allende that “he had never taken a gun, that day he took a rifle, which Fidel Castro had given him, when he visited him in Santiago de Chile. He put on a war helmet and he, together with a group of his companions, fought tanks, traitors and fascists and then blew himself up to be loyal and set an example.”
“His example tells Latin America that we must fight, we must always fight, because the peoples who fight have more power than the empires that conspire against the rise of nationalist, progressive and popular projects,” he said.
The head of state, stressed that after Allende, fascism arrived in Chile, “Allende denounced that a fascist right wing had emerged in Chile and was told that it was a lie (...) then a brutal dictatorship was imposed”.
“The coup d'etat took place in Chile, the same as always, Richard Nixon, President of the United States, and Henry Kissingern, the foreign minister, called Secretary of State,” he recalled.
President Maduro assured that this is over because “they will not continue to plague our Continent with misery and least of all with fascism. In Venezuela, we are giving him a lesson in dignity, patriotism and anti-fascism.”
“! Long live Salvador Allende as leader! Long live Chile free,” he said.
