The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, led the event commemorating the Bicentennial of the Chuquisaca Decree, which he described as “the first environmental decree in the history of Venezuela.”

When the day arrived, held in Vinicio Adames Park, the head of state planted a tree in honor of the national celebration date. “We are in this wonderful park in the southern part of Caracas, which has turned it into a beauty for the family to enjoy. We are amazed to see the little animals that are here (...)”.

He added that “we came to commemorate the first environmental decree”, after the planting of a tree that he described as a “planting of the future and of the Fatherland”.

The signing of the Chuquisaca Decree was signed by Simón Bolívar on December 19, 1825 during a triumphant tour of Bolivian lands, where he forged his vision of the need to protect and care for nature, as well as the recovery and rational use of natural resources.

The Head of State attended the event in the company of the First Lady, Cilia Flores; the sectoral vice-president of Science, Technology, Education and Health, and Minister of Popular Power for Science and Technology, Gabriela Jiménez Ramírez; the president of the National Institute of Parks (Inparks), Rosa Inés Chávez; among other authorities.
