This Monday, August 12, the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, decreed the creation of the Presidential Council for Cybersecurity, following the recommendation of the Minister of People's Power for Science and Technology, Gabriela Jiménez, and her team.
“All of the Internet is produced in the United States. Who produces it? Those who are attacking Venezuela; there are mechanisms to defend themselves and you have to specialize, that's why I'm going to sign the presidential decree ordering the creation of the Presidential Council for Cybersecurity of Venezuela to face cyberattacks, protect Venezuela's technological systems and guarantee the release of all the country's command systems,” said the Head of State during the meeting with the Council of State and the Council for the Defense of the Nation.
In that regard, he urged that all State institutions must be freed and vaccinated against cyberwar, “so that the country functions freely and independently,” he said.
During her speech, Minister Jiménez explained that Venezuela is the most cybernetically attacked country in America, noting that 30 million attacks have been received per minute.
In addition, he indicated the great technological and economic power behind these attacks, since it is estimated that to carry out these actions you must pay between about 1 thousand dollars and 5 thousand dollars.
“So we have a sophistication in the number of attacks, a significant volume in the number of attacks, significant funding in the number of attacks and a diversity of attacks with more than five types aimed at the State's technological platforms,” he explained and noted that the attacks are also linked to social networks in which they begin to create matrices against the Venezuelan public network.
In addition, he indicated that research is still under development to cybernetically strengthen the entire national public network.
