The Minister of Popular Power for Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, reported that in response to the request of President Nicolás Maduro Moros, the special humanitarian assistance operation continues to be deployed for Colombian families who arrived in the Jesús María Semprún municipality, located on the border between the state of Zulia and the department of Catatumbo (Norte de Santander).
The displaced respond to the conflict of clashes between the National Liberation Army (ELN) and the dissidents of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).
“Following the guidelines of President Nicolás Maduro, we have implemented a humanitarian assistance operation aimed at Colombian families who have arrived in the Jesús María Semprún Municipality, located on the border between the state of Zulia and the department of Catatumbo (Norte de Santander), as a result of clashes between the ELN and the dissidents of the 33rd Front of the FARC,” he said on his channel Telegram the chancellor.
He also stressed that "Venezuela is committed to making all its resources available to Colombia to mitigate this crisis.”
The clashes between the ELN and the FARC dissent in the Colombian region of Catatumbo have caused more than 80 fatalities, more than 20 injured and thousands of people displaced, said this Sunday, January 19, the governor of the department of Norte de Santander, William Villamizar.
