The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, urged the member countries of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA-TCP) to consolidate unity and independence, to face the “new colonizing project” directed against Latin America and the Caribbean.
During his speech at the 25th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the organization, he stressed that united and using the peoples' own resources, peace can be achieved in the region, based on development and stability.
“Let's trust our efforts, we have brains, two eyes, ears, arms, legs, intelligence, history, wisdom, nothing we need to be free and independent,” he said and emphasized the need to pool resources to move towards an “independence that shines and is seen by the whole world.”
He assured that, 21 years after the creation of ALBA-TCP, the “colonizing project will not pass” through Latin America and the Caribbean, because nations will be free. At the same time, he reiterated that the union of Latin America and the Caribbean must be based on the internal union of nation-states and their vanguards, must also be based on the articulation and permanent emancipation of peoples, in the different social, cultural and political spheres.
