The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, maintained that Venezuela's right to Guiana Essequiba “is a libertarian right, in the face of colonial dispossession.”
This was stated by the head of state, from the Elliptical Hall of the National Assembly (AN), during the act of enactment of the Organic Law for the Defense of Guiana Esequiba, where he recalled the electoral campaign convened by the National Electoral Council (CNE), on December 3, 2023.
“It was a highly pedagogical campaign that succeeded in raising awareness and updating the issue of Venezuela's rights to Guiana Essequiba, giving voice to those who had never had one on this issue and renewing the patriotic sentiment of a peaceful people who never resigned themselves to having their Guiana Essequiba robbed.”
He added that being a “sensitive issue for all Venezuelans, on that occasion a political miracle was achieved, such as the unification into a single national sentiment and that slogan: The Essequibo is ours”.
