The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, celebrated the 20th anniversary of the news network Russia Today: “a symbol of professionalism, courage and commitment to the truth”.

“With respect and admiration, I sent a letter to the president of Russia Today, Margarita Simonyan, and to the workers of this news network, to send them our warmest congratulations on the occasion of their 20th anniversary; 20 years that are expressed as a symbol of professionalism, courage and commitment to the truth, in particularly difficult times for the ethical exercise of journalism,” he said.

He stressed that this news network has been consistent with the truth in the face of the landscape, where censorship is imposed on independent media, ideological persecution and the stigmatization of sovereign peoples.

He recalled that in February and March 2022, the European Union banned the transmission and distribution of Russia Today and other Russian media, exercising open and scandalous censorship, “believing that they could silence the voice of an entire people”.
