The President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, met this Tuesday with authorities specialized in firefighting and security to discuss the measures to be taken to combat fires that affect more than 50% of the national territory.

Through the international press, it became known that President Lula will approach the debate as a matter of State and not of Government, at the same time that he will announce the measures approved during the meeting. In addition, the head of Environment of Brazil, Marina Silva, reported that most of the country's territory is exposed to the increase in forest fires as a result of severe drought.

“In a context like this, with an area of five million square kilometers - 60% of the surface of Brazil - with very dry organic matter that burns very easily due to low humidity, high temperatures and wind speeds, it is as if we had a situation of risk throughout the country,” said Silva.
