President of Honduras oversees facilities for free care at Misión Milagro

The president of Honduras, Xiomara Castro, oversaw the work of the free eye clinic built by her government in the town of Catacamas, department of Olancho (center-east), the sixth of its kind as part of the Operation Miracle program.

As part of the strengthening of the Honduran health system, it was inaugurated on September 1, the clinic has so far treated thousands of patients, performed numerous surgeries and delivered graduated lens kits, all free of charge and guaranteeing quality of life to patients, especially those with lower incomes.

Castro during the tour of the care rooms, operating rooms, optics and other areas, and spoke with patients, doctors and managers; in addition, he called on the population to take care of the facilities. “This is yours and for you, the people must take care of what is here,” he said.

The network of six ophthalmic clinics is located in Tegucigalpa, Siguatepeque, San José de Colinas, Santa Bárbara, San Pedro Sula and Olancho. Its distribution means that thousands of patients do not have to travel to the capital to receive specialized medical care, avoiding unnecessary expenses.
