The president of Honduras, Xiomara Castro, was unharmed this Tuesday, February 25, after an emergency landing of the helicopter on her way from San Pedro Sula, north, to Tegucigalpa, center, the same president reported, reported the EFE News Agency.
“We were coming from San Pedro to Tegucigalpa and it was closed. We couldn't go ahead or return, so we had to make an emergency landing, we're all doing great, I really appreciate your concern,” Castro told reporters.
The landing occurred in the Santa Cruz de Yoyoa sector, in the extreme south of the department of Cortés, according to preliminary information.
The fog complicated the trajectory of the helicopter where President Xiomara Castro was traveling and the aircraft had to land as an emergency in a wooded area of Santa Cruz de Yojoa.
For his part, the Honduran foreign minister, Eduardo Enrique Reina, indicated in a message on his account on the social network X, that “we are pleased to inform the Honduran people and the international community, that we have contacted the President @ XiomaraCastroz and she has confirmed that she and the entourage that accompanied her, on a business trip to the interior of the country, are in optimal conditions and out of danger, after which the helicopter they were traveling in, for weather reasons, had to make a landing of emergency in the community of Santa Cruz de Yojoa, in the north of the country”.
The northern region of Honduras has been affected since Monday, February 24, by a cold front that is causing rains.
