President of Iran travels to China to strengthen relations and participate in the Shanghai Summit

The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masud Pezeshkia n, will travel to the People's Republic of China this weekend to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, which will be held on Sunday, August 31 and Monday, September 1.

The SCO Summit presents itself as a key opportunity to consolidate the strategic relationship between the two countries at a critical time of growing tension with the West.

According to the spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Ismail Baghaei, this will be the first official trip of the Iranian president to China in the last year.

On this occasion, 10 permanent member countries of the SCO and more than 20 nations will meet within the framework of Shanghai Plus, it will be a platform to strengthen diplomatic ties between members, including China, Russia, India and Iran.

Baghaei stressed that this meeting will allow Iran to hold important consultations with the countries present, especially with China, whose role is becoming increasingly crucial for Iran.

Telesur explained that bilateral meetings with senior Chinese officials are planned to deepen the 25-year cooperation agreement that both countries have signed, which is being successfully implemented.
