This Monday, January 12, the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, said that her Government could act as a bridge between Havana and Washington to discuss issues such as the supply of oil to the Caribbean island, although it has not yet been directly addressed in talks with Donald Trump.

He pointed out, according to a review by the international news agency RT, that this mediation depends on the acceptance of both parties.

President Sheinbaum said that the issue of the supply of oil to Cuba was not addressed during a recent phone call with the US president, Donald Trump. Cuba, for its part, reaffirms its right to import fuel and maintain commercial relations without US interference, while Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez described Washington as a “criminal hegemon” that threatens peace.

The tensions occur in the context of the US economic blockade against Cuba, in force for 66 years, and widely condemned by the international community and the UN.
