The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, announced that she will not attend the next Summit of the Americas, scheduled for December in the Dominican Republic.

“No, I will not attend because the exclusion of countries contravenes the Government's position. Personally, first of all, we never agree that any country should be excluded, but also, in the current circumstance, no,” he said.

In his morning press conference, he stressed that he disagrees with the exclusion of Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela from the regional meeting, in addition to highlighting the need to address the flood emergency in the center of the country, which so far has caused 64 deaths.

Sheinbaum also cited the emergency situation due to the heavy rains: “We must be taking care of the country and in particular the emergency” referring to the floods affecting central Mexico.

Finally, the president indicated that her government is evaluating whether there will be Mexican representation at the Summit through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: “That's what we're seeing, let's see if there will be someone from the Foreign Ministry who could go,” she said.
