The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, pointed out that from his perspective, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) “is no longer necessary”, in addition to the fact that the entity is only a political tool of the United States.
This was reported by the Sputnik portal , after statements by the Russian president in which he reiterates that NATO is no longer necessary at all and is only meant to be an instrument of US foreign policy”.
“If the United States believes it needs this tool, it's their decision,” the president said in an interview with the journalist to Pável Zarubin.
In this regard, he supported the statements of former US President Donald Trump, who said that Washington would not protect NATO's lagging allies in their defense spending.
“The United States and Europe should themselves deal with defense spending and the nuclear issue of NATO, as proposed by former US President Donald Trump,” said the Russian head of state.
Regarding the presidential elections in November of this year in the United States, he pointed out that Biden has more experience and is more predictable. But Russia will work with any American leader,” the Russian president said.
Describing former US President Donald Trump, Putin said that the tycoon has his own opinion on how American relations with allies should develop.
“Trump, on the other hand, has always been called a non-systemic politician. He has his own vision on the issue of how the United States should develop relations with its allies,” Putin said.
