The president of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, denounced that the Somaliland authorities have agreed to welcome displaced Palestinians, as well as the installation of an Israeli military base in exchange for obtaining international recognition.
The president stated that this information comes from intelligence reports recently analyzed by his government, TELESUR reports.
Mohamud described as surprising and strange the possibility that the Zionist entity of Israel would recognize Somaliland as a State and pointed out that the separatist region would also be willing to join the Abraham Accords, promoted in 2020 to normalize relations between Tel Aviv and several countries.
The Somali head of state assured that Israel seeks greater influence over key maritime corridors, such as the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
In addition, he assured that a possible presence in Somaliland would represent an initial phase of covert operations in the area.
In this context, he explained that the Somali administration would have accepted three demands: the transfer of Palestinians to its territory, the opening of a military installation in the Gulf of Aden and formal adherence to normalization agreements with the Israeli State.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud reiterated Somalia's absolute rejection of any Israeli deployment in Somaliland and warned that international recognition of the region could transfer external conflicts to Somali territory.
He also stressed that Somalia has no disputes with Israel and does not want to be dragged into foreign confrontations.
Mohamud described the situation as worrying and regrettable, while calling for respect for international law and recalling that his government is still committed to peacefully resolving tensions stemming from separatism in the north of the country.
