Last Wednesday, the President of the United States (USA), Joe Biden, declared the situation in the state of California a “state of disaster” and ordered federal aid to “complement state and local recovery efforts in areas affected by forest fires,” according to information from the White House.

U.S. authorities detail that, through a measure, they have federal funds available for affected people in Los Angeles County; assistance may include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster.

Five people have lost their lives and more than 80,000 were evacuated. In the town of Pacific Palisades, flames destroyed more than 20 square kilometers, in Eaton 9 and in Hurst 2 square kilometers.

The fire, combined with strong winds, caused power outages in California, where some 400,000 people were left without power last Wednesday.
