President: Operation Lightning of Catatumbo has been a huge success

The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, highlighted on Monday the success of Operation Lightning of Catatumbo, which has resulted in the historic seizure of more than 16 tons of cocaine in the Colombian drug trafficking state of Zulia.

“We are in a permanent fight against drug trafficking that comes from Colombia. Where are cocaine and all the drugs produced in this region of the world? Unfortunately, in Colombia, it is the legacy of 200 years of oligarchies, of surnames that governed and destroyed Colombia and assimilated drug trafficking as their form of economic activity,” he said.

In this sense, during a new broadcast of his program Con Maduro+, the Head of State emphasized that the Bolivarian Government must “take care of the entire border, because by all means they try to use Venezuelan territory for their activities of destruction, their violent and illegal activities, and we have had great successes thanks to the military, police and people's fusion.”

“I can say: Operation Catatumbo Lightning has been a huge success. The Venezuelan Catatumbo is free of violent groups and the Venezuelan territory is free of coca crops, cocaine production and drug traffickers and drug trafficking,” he said.

The President said that in the next few hours there will be new news “of gigantic successes that are being achieved at this time (...) in incredible things throughout that area to free up all that space that covers from the state of Táchira to the state of Zulia from violent activities that come to us from Colombia.”
