The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, is increasing his warnings about irregularities that, in his opinion, could lead to electoral fraud.
The Colombian president pointed out the need to refrain from leaving blank spaces in E14 forms, in which juries record the results of counting the electoral cards deposited at the polls, that is, it contains the number of votes cast in favor of each party or candidate according to the counting they carry out.
He emphasized that the boxes must be filled with an X so that they are not transformed into false numbers before tables that fail to have electoral witnesses.
Petro also asked the registry to prevent what he described as a stimulus to fraud and stated that the software to be audited is not only the national one, but also the one that keeps records of the polls at voting stations in municipalities and departments.
In a recent statement made on his account on the social network X, he stated that he commented on all the weaknesses of the current electoral system to the observation mission from Europe, while assuring that he asked the Minister of the Interior to convene the Guarantees Commission.
“Municipal and departmental counting software must be audited by parties and citizens. At least 123,000 trained witnesses must be trained by political parties,” he said, Prensa Latina reports.
On the other hand, he warned that the British-born multinational group Thomas and Greg should not operate electoral computing software “when at the same time it manages the data of Colombians because of its impact on the identification number allowed in the Registrar's Office, and on passports.”
On March 8, legislative elections will be held in which more than 41 million Colombians are eligible to vote.
On this date, the 108 members of the Senate will be elected, which functions as a single national constituency, which means that all Colombians vote for the same candidates regardless of their department of residence. In which 188 representatives will also be elected, distributed by special departments and constituencies.
