The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, has denounced that sectors of the right wing in his country allied with corrupt and mafia groups intend to use lukewarm anti-government demonstrations to generate a coup d'etat.

“The main objective of the marches is to shout 'Petro out' and overthrow the government of change. This process has already begun and it is a soft blow that annuls the popular decision due to the change in 2022,” said the Colombian president on Social Networks, in relation to the demonstrations against the government that, according to him, had more or less 250,000 people throughout the country, especially in Medellín, Bogotá and Bucaramanga and weak in the rest of the 18 places.

He specified that the marches were respected to the maximum, as well as to freedom of expression and the rights of the people because they were one of the central characteristics of his government.

Some sectors of those mobilized want a pact that will undo reforms that are in favor of the people to keep capturing enormous amounts of public money used as private profits,” the ruler denounced.

He added that although the government will seek paths of understanding, if the right wing wants to circumvent the elections and disrespect the people's vote, there will be no understanding. The national pact is for the future and not for the past,” he said.

We have always been open to dialogue and we have always respected our principles for which we were chosen. The change consists of more Social Justice and more equity for people,” Petro concluded.
