President Petro: The real reason for US aggressions is “oil, oil and oil”

The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, has commented on the theft of an oil tanker by the United States announced last Wednesday by the president of that country, Donald Trump.

Faced with this, the President of the New Granada nation emphasized that the real reason for Washington's aggressions in the Caribbean is oil.

“They just seized a ship, it's piracy, oil, it's oil, that is, they're showing why they're doing what they're doing; oil, oil and oil,” Petro said.

The Colombian president's statement joins the various governments, organizations and movements that have raised their voices against this filibuster action by the U.S. government.

The Cuban Government and the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) spoke out in line similar to what was expressed by the authorities of the Bolivarian country.

Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parilla condemned in X the “vile act of piracy and the seizure by that country's military forces of a vessel with Venezuelan oil, which contravenes the rules of free trade and freedom of navigation, in frank violation of international law.”

For its part, ALBA subscribed to what Rodríguez said and stressed that “this fact constitutes a very serious violation of international law and a direct attack on the sovereignty of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela”, while the Mexican president, Claudia Sheinbaum, reiterated that the position of her administration has not changed.

“Mexico will always defend the self-determination of peoples, non-invasion, non-interference and the decision of peoples to have governments that the peoples themselves decide,” he said this day at his morning press conference.

In turn, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with his Venezuelan counterpart, Nicolás Maduro, to express his support. “Vladimir Putin expressed his solidarity with the Venezuelan people and reaffirmed his support for the course of the Government of Nicolás Maduro, aimed at defending national interests and sovereignty under conditions of increasing external pressure,” they said from the Kremlin.
