The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, rejected the idea of a military intervention in Mexican territory previously raised by the President of the United States, Donald Trump.

Mexico is a sovereign country that would never accept foreign intervention, so military action is not necessary, it's not going to happen and we already have an understanding with the American Union regarding security,” he stressed.

He also reiterated national sovereignty in negotiations with the United States within the framework of the 1944 Water Treaty.

“Although Mexico operates on the principle of respecting agreements, the guarantee of water for the population is an unavoidable priority. Last Tuesday, December 20, the fifth virtual binational meeting of the year began between the two Governments to monitor water deliveries and carry out the relevant technical evaluations,” he said.

Mexico's fundamental premise is to comply with the treaty without compromising the supply essential for human consumption or the volume required by Mexican farmers.

The president explained that there has been an exchange of offers, with a first Mexican proposal followed by a US response and a counterproposal sent in the evening.
