This Monday, the President of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping, assured that his country is willing to collaborate with other BRICS nations to implement the Global Development Initiative and promote high-quality cooperation among all members.
“We must take advantage of our respective strengths, deepen practical collaboration and make our business, financial, scientific and technological cooperation more productive, in order to strengthen the foundations, momentum and impact of the Great BRICS Corporation and bring more benefits to our Peoples,” said the Chinese president.
The president of the Asian giant added that hegemonism, unilateralism and protectionism “are increasingly frequent”, as are trade and tariff wars, which “seriously disrupt the world economy and undermine international trade rules”.
Xi, urged all BRICS member countries “located at the forefront of the Global South” to act “in the spirit of openness, inclusion and cooperation, and to jointly defend multilateralism and the multilateral trading system.”
“We must defend multilateralism to defend international equity and justice (...) History teaches us that multilateralism is an aspiration shared by peoples and a dominant trend that provides an important basis for world peace and development,” he said.
