The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, held
a video conference with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, on Tuesday, in which they
reaffirmed their joint commitment to building a
fairer multipolar world order and to guarantee Eurasian and world security, after the return of the
President of the United States (USA), Donald Trump, to the White House.
During the meeting, Putin highlighted that bilateral trade achieved
significant growth, with more than 220 billion dollars in 11 months,
according to Russian figures, and close to 245 billion according to Chinese data for the whole
year, despite external pressures.
For his part, the Chinese president agreed that bilateral
relations are “acquiring new vitality” whose
core is based on “good neighbourliness and friendship”, with
rising trade and the complete launch of the China-Russia gas pipeline's eastern route.
Both leaders pledged to defend the UN-centered
international system and the rights of China and Russia as
permanent members of the Security Council.
