The decision of the Zionist government of Israel to continue the occupation of the Gaza Strip causes a worsening of the humanitarian situation and a greater military escalation, said the Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni.
The head of government condemned the construction of new settlements in the West Bank and argued that "Italy is following with deep concern the recent events related to the decisions taken by the Israeli Government regarding the situation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, and firmly reaffirms its commitment to peace, security and respect for international law”.
“The decision to continue the occupation of Gaza in response to the inhumane terrorist attack perpetrated by Hamas on October 7, 2023 represents a new military escalation that will only worsen the serious humanitarian situation. Italy also condemns Israel's decision to allow the construction of new settlements in the West Bank.”
The Prime Minister added that the action violates international law and threatens to permanently jeopardize the two-state solution.
In this regard, he added that Italy is ready to support all efforts to establish peace and contribute to the resolution after the end of the conflict.
