This Wednesday, the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, was injured in a shooting near the building where he had met with members of his government, details Russia Today (RT) on its website.

It is officially known that Fico was taken by helicopter from the hospital in Handlová to the hospital in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia. The Prime Minister suffered gunshot wounds, presumably to the extremities, chest and abdomen.

However, local media have highlighted that Fico “is out of danger” and will undergo an operation. The official was conscious during his transfer to the hospital and his vital functions were stabilized.

The Slovak president, Zuzana Chaputova, condemned “in the strongest possible terms” the “brutal and reckless attack” against the prime minister and stated that she is “totally shocked”. “I wish him a lot of strength at this critical time and a speedy recovery,” he said.
