Social organizations, student networks and community groups promoted a national strike accompanied by simultaneous demonstrations in all 50 states of the United States to demand the dismantling of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE) and an end to actions against migrant populations.
The demonstrations, scheduled for January 30 and 31, are a response to the death of eight people involved in immigration operations in 2026, including Renee Good and Alex Pretti, in Minneapolis, whose deaths during federal operations were recorded on video and sparked a wide protest, Telesur reported.
For Friday, university groups, with the participation of groups from the University of Minnesota, promoted a “national strike” with the slogan “No work, no classes, no shopping. Stop funding ICE.”
The initiative aims to interrupt economic activities as a mechanism of political pressure, a tactic that movement spokespersons describe as a general strike with a social reach.
