Public Ministry will charge María Corina Machado for inciting new sanctions against Venezuela

The Public Ministry (MP) announced this Friday the decision to initiate an investigation against the extremist María Corina Machado, following her pronouncements in favor of bill HR825, misnamed “Bolivar Law”, promoted by the Congress of the United States (USA) with the objective of tightening the economic blockade against Venezuela, by prohibiting trade and sanctioning companies that do business with the South American country.

In a statement, the Public Prosecutor's Office states that the public pronouncements made by Machado, “regarding this irritated bill, seriously involve her and constitute the commission of the crimes of treason, established in article 128 of the Criminal Code; conspiracy with foreign countries, established in article 132 of the Criminal Code and association to commit crimes, established in article 37 of the Law against Organized Crime”.

The Public Ministry informs the country that in the context of the recent criminal actions carried out by the United States House of Representatives, on the occasion of the approval of a bill, which seeks to increase the catalog of illegal sanctions against the Venezuelan people, and also seeks to tarnish the name of our Liberator Simon Bolivar, seriously violating the Constitution, Laws and Sovereignty: therefore, in view of these facts, where sectors of the extreme right, led by María Corina Machado and others, have expressed their support for the same: she has decided to initiate an investigation against the above-mentioned defendant to be charged, for her promotion and support for this legal profession that sponsors terrible criminal acts against the Venezuelan people.

The public pronouncements that the above-mentioned one has made regarding this irritated bill seriously involve it and constitute the commission of the crimes of treason, established in article 128 of the Criminal Code; conspiracy with foreign countries, established in article 132 of the Criminal Code and association to commit crimes, established in article 37 of the Law against Organized Crime.

The Public Prosecutor's Office, as director of criminal investigations and as an organ of the Citizen Power, guarantor of the faithful tradition of freedom, peace, independence and sovereignty that characterizes our Republic, remains firm both in its duty to guarantee justice and in its fight against any person, group or national or international entity whose actions threaten the stability of the country.
