A massive blackout occurred this Wednesday, April 16, on the island of Puerto Rico, without going beyond the causes of the event, the Russia Today website reported.

Governor Jenniffer González, who is traveling outside of Puerto Rico, said that the authorities “are working diligently with the entire energy component.”

The authorities reported an unexpected departure from service of the generating plants, causing a disconnection; until now the causes of this situation are unknown.

For its part, the company Genera PR, which is the energy supplier to the island, said in its account on the social network X, that “we report that we have experienced a massive blackout throughout the island due to the unexpected departure of all generation plants, including those of Genera PR and other private generators”.

It is estimated that some 1,073,997 customers lost their electricity service, representing 73.36%, according to the LUMA service portal quoted by the local newspaper El Nuevo Día.
