The athlete Ricardo Montes de Oca set a new national record in pole vaulting, reaching 5.70 meters during the 44 Farms Invitational, in Texas, a result that surpasses the outdoor record he had set five days earlier.
The result was obtained at Cushing Stadium, in College Station, where he dominated the NCAA university circuit test and scored points for High Point University, an institution where he has been studying since last year, the Ministry of Sports reported.
The result of 5.70 places him among the eight best of the year on the North American university circuit and makes him rise from 46th to 39th position in the World Athletics ranking, led by Armand Duplantis with 6.31 meters.
“He is now working with another type of fiberglass pole, the Spirit brand, which has provided him with better performance in his training and has allowed him to achieve this progress in his jumps. The challenge is that by this year it can reach the 5.85 meter mark,” said Ricardo Montes de Oca, father, a member of the athlete's coaching staff.
The pole vaulter will resume Olympic competitions in July at the Central American and Caribbean Games, in Santo Domingo, where he will seek his second regional title after the gold won in the Ayacucho-Lima Bolivarians.
