Ricardo Montes de Oca won a new title in pole vaulting after winning the gold medal after surpassing the bar at 5.20 meters in the XX Bolivarian Games in Ayacucho-Lima.

At 19 years old, Montes de Oca continues to show a vertiginous rise in this discipline. Last August, he was crowned at the Junior Pan American Games in Asunción, and in his second foray into the Bolivarian Games, he also climbed to the top of the podium.

All of this demonstrates the change he has experienced since the last Olympic cycle, when in his Bolivarian debut in Valledupar 2022, he ranked fourth with 5.00 m at the age of 16.

“The meaning of this medal is very great compared to my first participation, which transformed, now, with this great achievement in my career. Honestly, I have come a long way in the last three years, I am a Pan-American under-23 and under-20 champion, and now I have this Bolivarian title,” the athlete meditated on his record.
