The president of the National Assembly (AN), Jorge Rodríguez, described Salvadoran president Nayib Bukele as a “butcher” due to the inhumane treatment of Venezuelan migrants kidnapped in the country.
Rodríguez denounced that Venezuelan citizens, who have not committed any crime in Salvadoran territory, are being unjustly detained in facilities that he described as “concentration camps disguised as maximum security prisons.”
“It's unacceptable that our Venezuelan brothers and sisters are being kidnapped and treated in this way. This constitutes a flagrant violation of human rights and an act of barbarism that has no place in our Latin America,” Rodríguez said.
Rodríguez also stressed that the United States cannot be considered a safe country for migrants either.
“The United States has repeatedly demonstrated its lack of respect for the human rights of migrants, subjecting them to undignified conditions and arbitrary legal processes,” he said.
Rodríguez reaffirmed the commitment of the National Government to guarantee the safe return of all Venezuelan migrants.
“Our compatriots will return to their homes, to the embraces of their families and to the warmth of their homeland. We will not rest until every unjustly persecuted Venezuelan is brought back home,” he concluded.
