The president of the National Assembly (AN), Jorge Rodríguez, announced that elections for Communal Justices of the Peace will be held throughout the country on December 15.
“The constitution and the law oblige us to choose justices of the peace through secret, direct and universal voting. For this reason, 5,000 communal circuits have already been defined, corresponding to 3,643 communes and groups of Community Councils,” Rodríguez said during the installation of the National Electoral Commission.
He indicated that people over 15 years of age will be able to vote, the only requirement is to have a laminated ballot and will have the support of the National Electoral Council (CNE) and the Republic Plan.
“We are going to choose three justices of the peace with their respective alternates in each communal circuit, which means that on December 15, 30,000 justices of the peace will be elected; 15,000 principal and 15,000 alternates,” he said.
He indicated that 5,000 Electoral Commissions will be set up for each of the communal circuits that will publish an electoral schedule that will end on December 13.
“It's a very simple ballot where people will have the opportunity to vote up to three times on election day,” he said.
