The National Assembly (AN) suspended the parliamentary recess until it enacts laws that defend the country against fascism and hate crimes by the extreme right, said its president, deputy Jorge Rodríguez.

“The Parliament proposed to approve a package of laws to accompany the action of the National Executive and the Attorney General's Office for the purpose of enforcing the electoral results and also for the purpose of defending citizens and citizens against fascism,” he said.

In this regard, he reiterated that the decision was taken in view of the serious nature of events orchestrated on July 27, 28, 29, 30 and 31 by the extreme right led by María Corina Machado and Edmundo González Urrutia.

“The 25 dead were young members of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela, militants of the Revolution, but that is forgotten by the news agencies. It is our responsibility to defend the truth and I request that we suspend the parliamentary recess,” he said.
