This Monday, January 5, the permanent representative of Russia to the United Nations (UN), Vasili Nebenzia, categorically condemned the actions of the United States (USA) against Venezuela and denounced the kidnapping of constitutional president Nicolás Maduro and the first female combatant, Cilia Flores, considering that this is a serious violation of international law.

During his speech, at the session of the UN Security Council, he noted that the beginning of this new year shocked the international community, which was committed to respect for international law, the principles of non-interference, diplomacy and the peaceful resolution of conflicts by the new U.S. government.

In this regard, he specified that the aggression, aggravated by the death of dozens of Venezuelan and Cuban citizens, constitutes a harbinger of the return to an era of illegality, marked by the use of force, chaos and anarchy as instruments of domination by the United States, practices that continue to affect numerous States in the world.

Nebenzia maintained that there is and can't be any justification for the crimes committed by the United States in Caracas and strongly condemned the armed aggression against Venezuela, stressing that it flagrantly violates all the norms of international law.

In connection with the kidnapping of the legitimately elected president Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, he demanded that the U.S. authorities release them immediately, in accordance with the fundamental principles of the multilateral system.

He reiterated that any difference between the United States and Venezuela must be resolved through dialogue, as established by the United Nations Charter , and called on the international community to defend the international legal order against unilateral actions that undermine it.
