Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov said that Russia expects the United States to avoid actions that alter stability in the Caribbean or around Venezuela.

“We hope that no action will be taken that could lead to the destabilization of the situation in the Caribbean and around Venezuela,” Peskov said at a press conference.

The spokesman referred to the start of Operation Southern Spear and the increase in U.S. naval forces near Venezuela. “We hope that everything will be developed in accordance with international law,” he added.

Since August, three boats carrying 4,000 U.S. soldiers have been deployed in waters near Venezuela, in addition to the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford.

According to the Sputnik website, there have been about 20 attacks against fishing vessels, leaving more than 70 dead.
