This Thursday, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and delegate to the BRICS, Sergey Riabkov, after the meeting of representatives of the group, reported that his country expects to publish a list of partner countries of the association by the end of the year.
“We discussed the situation related to the introduction of a new category of BRICS: partner states. You know that the interest in the world in cooperating with this structure is very high,” he said.
Likewise, Riabkov added that he hopes that “by the end of this year, that is, at the end of our presidency, the list of countries that will be willing to become our partners will be made public. Thus, the BRICS continues to strengthen and develop.”
After the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the list of partner countries had been agreed upon. The full list was not named.
The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs indicated that invitations will first be sent to these States and, after receiving a positive response, it will be announced who is on the list.
Since January 1, 2024, the BRICS partnership (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) has been expanded to five countries: Egypt, Iran, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia. Russia became the first presidency of the expanded BRICS. Brazil will assume the presidency next year.
